A MORSEL OF MOONS

A Morsel of Moons On turning over a copper etching plate, a violet-glowing full moon set against a stormy sky came to life. A dark and unsettling moon. Taken aback, I observed her. And from that point, full moons, new moons, waning moons started to structure my days at the workshop. Orb-shaped aspirations and colour filled the seasons as new spaces were created, spaces that were never enough to portray the full extent of her restless nature. You made me look to the sky, you made me your moon, the sea that replicates you, the puddles of water on rainy days that simultaneously multiply your body as misty halos. And you made me think of that conviction held by Angolan bushmen, that all water comes from the moon and that every being must drink lunar water, sucking the dew from the bushes and grasses in the morning and evening, as a kind of sacred invocation to the rain. To be working on a series of etchings on Shame and then, driven purely by instinct, turn over the etching plate held in my hands and dare to print its underside could be seen as a contradiction... or not. From the very first print there were moons falling from the sky, multiplying and eclipsing each other. They appeared spontaneously, through no effort of my own. Then over time and in the pleasure of their company, I deliberately sought them out. The prints I present belong to the series called Un Mos de Llunes, “A Morsel of Moons”. Made by engraving, they are mainly etchings and were developed at the Taller Barbarà in Barcelona during 2019/2020.
